Non-Destructive Testing · Industrial CT

See every defect.
Touch nothing.

CT-based NDT maps the full internal volume of your part — porosity, cracks, voids, inclusions — without cutting, drilling, or destroying the sample. Every defect. Every location. In three dimensions.

What is CT-based NDT?

X-ray computed tomography
for industrial inspection

CT scanning builds a complete 3D picture of your part's interior from thousands of X-ray projections. Features that used to require destructive sectioning are now resolved in a few hours — with the sample intact throughout.

Find hidden defects

Every void, crack, inclusion, and delamination — mapped in full 3D without cutting, grinding, or destroying the sample. The part leaves in exactly the condition it arrived. What dye-penetrant and ultrasound miss, CT finds.

Materials analysis

CT reveals internal material structure non-destructively: fibre orientation in short-fibre composites, particle distribution in castings and granulates, corrosion mapping in metallic structures, density gradients in sintered or pressed parts, and wall integrity in multi-layer materials. What used to require sectioning and SEM can now be characterised volumetrically — in 3D, across the whole part.

Root cause starts with CT data

Understand failure

Field failures rarely have a single cause — CT gives you the full picture before you draw conclusions. A PCB failure might trace back to a mechanical stress concentration, a weakened solder joint, local overheating, and eventual open circuit — each step visible in the volumetric data. Repeated thermal cycling can delaminate a capacitor, shifting its resonant frequency long before visible failure. CT documents the complete internal condition at the moment of failure — no evidence lost, no assumptions made.

Two scans tell the full story

Scan the same part before and after any event — controlled impact, applied load, thermal cycle, accelerated ageing — and you gain more than a damage assessment. You can quantify exactly what changed, where, and by how much: deformation under force, crack initiation and growth, internal state change. External features can be registered and matched between scans, internal structures compared voxel-for-voxel. Two scans are also how you validate a repair, document a manufacturing process change, or prove a design improvement.

Scanning Capabilities

Two modalities.
One contact point.

Small and precise, or large and dense — both covered. You deal with Probeam regardless of which technology your part requires.

kV Local · Modality A

Microfocus kV CT

▸ Probeam lab, Neuhausen am Rheinfall

High-resolution CT for small to medium parts where fine detail matters. Best for electronics, precision castings, injection-moulded components, and additive manufactured parts. Scans run locally for fast turnaround and direct communication.

Typical part size Up to ~300 mm
Min. feature resolution ~10 µm
Best for Alu, plastics, composites, AM
Turnaround Often same week

MV Partner network · Modality B

Megavolt CT

▸ Partner facilities, South Germany & North Italy

High-energy CT for large, heavy, or very dense parts that standard X-ray cannot penetrate. Steel assemblies, thick-walled castings, full engine blocks. Probeam handles detector setup, geometric calibration, reconstruction, and analysis — you ship the part, we deliver the data.

Typical part size Up to several hundred kg
Best for Steel, dense alloys, large alu
Parts accepted from CH, DE, IT

Lab environment: Probeam operates within the Suisse Technology Partners facility in Neuhausen am Rheinfall — an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited materials lab. If CT results point to a need for complementary testing (mechanical, corrosion, damage analysis), that expertise is available on-site.
