Dimensional Metrology · Industrial CT

Measure it fast,
all at once —
reach where CMMs can't.

CT metrology delivers internal bores, wall thicknesses, enclosed cavities, and full GD&T datasets from a single scan. No fixturing. No sectioning. No features left unmeasured.

What is CT Metrology?

X-ray computed tomography
for dimensional measurement

CT metrology uses the same volumetric scan data as NDT — but the goal is measurement. Every surface, internal or external, is reconstructed in 3D and measured directly. CT covers the full range of dimensional inspection approaches — point coordinates, distances, diameters, GD&T, surface comparison, porosity analysis — in a single acquisition, without contact.

Probeam CT Viewer · dimensional inspection

CMM · Optical · GD&T · Surface — All in one scan

One scan. Every measurement approach.

CT covers the full scope of dimensional inspection — what a CMM, an optical measurement device, or a surface scanner each do separately, CT delivers in a single acquisition. Point coordinates, distances, diameters, runout, flatness, GD&T callouts, surface-to-nominal comparison: all extracted from the same dataset. Internal features included as standard, at no additional cost or complexity.

Tolerances · Deviations · Nominal comparison

Surface deviation mapping

CT reconstructs the full surface of your part and compares it directly against the CAD nominal. Every deviation — positive or negative — is mapped in colour across the entire geometry: every external contour, every internal surface. Areas out of tolerance are immediately visible. You see exactly where the part deviates from design intent, and by how much.

Probeam CT Viewer · porosity & particle analysis

Porosity · Inclusions · Particle populations

Particle & porosity shape analysis

Every pore, inclusion, or particle in the scan volume is individually detected, labelled, and measured. For each feature CT reports: equivalent diameter, sphericity, Feret diameter (min and max), volume, surface area, and distance to nearest surface. Population statistics — size distributions, spatial clustering, orientation — are generated across the full volume. Where sectioning gives you a sample, CT gives you the complete population.

Wall thickness · Material distribution · Min/Max maps

Wall & material thickness measurement

CT maps wall thickness across the entire part volume — not at sample points, but continuously, across every voxel. Minimum and maximum wall locations are identified automatically. Illustrated here on a turbine blade scanned using the high-energy system: leading-edge to trailing-edge thickness gradient visualised in full, including the internal cooling channel geometry. Critical for castings, hollow profiles, and any part where material distribution is a structural requirement.

Zeiss Inspect X-Ray · 2026 Pro

Your QA team already knows this software.

Probeam holds the Zeiss Inspect X-Ray 2026 Pro licence and delivers project files as standard with every metrology scan. Open the file, see the data, re-run the features on your side.

  • Opens directly in your Zeiss Inspect installation — no conversion, no import step.
  • All features, tolerances, and deviation maps fully editable and re-runnable.
  • One format, one conversation with your customer QA team.

VDI/VDE 2630-1.3 aligned How Probeam ensures dimensional accuracy: Every metrology scan is preceded by a geometric calibration using precision calibration phantoms. Scan geometry is verified on request by reference spheres and ruby ball-trees measured on a CMM — to verify voxel scale. This delivers geometric integrity scan by scan, using the sphere centre-to-centre distance method described in VDI/VDE 2630 Part 1.3. Measurement uncertainty is calculated per scan and available on request. Phantom calibration certificates are in progress.

Lab environment: Probeam operates within the Suisse Technology Partners facility in Neuhausen am Rheinfall — an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited materials lab. If CT metrology results point to a need for complementary mechanical or materials testing, that expertise is available on the same site.
